This first hands-on class in the massage series explores the history and principles of massage and emphasizes the practical application of massage techniques. Students are introduced to the five basic Swedish strokes, practitioner preparation, body awareness and self-care, and treatment procedures. Anatomical terms and the locations of major muscles and bones will also be discussed. All course learning materials will be provided. No textbook required for Massage 1. Attendance in the first class meeting is mandatory. Practice Lab is also mandatory for Massage 1 students. Massage 1 to 5 classes are designed to be completed sequentially. Students must bring their own sheets to the first class.
Students in Massage 1 are required to enroll in and attend Practice Lab (For Term 1 Students) on Wednesdays from 1:30pm-4:30pm. Practice Lab has 30 contact hours
