Online Course: Preparation for an entry level sterilization tech position within a dental office.  The course includes the role of immunizations, personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, disinfection, sterilization, and environmental infection control procedures, principles of biohazardous communication, CDC and OSHA regulations and the role of a sterilization tech in dentistry.   Lab and clinical experiences apply principles and policies to prevent transmission of disease; infection control strategies, hand hygiene, PPE use, treatment room turn around, management of a  reprocessing center, management of beginning and end of day protocols and application OSHA regulations, biological monitoring and waterline management. Requirements: Student must be age 18,have proof of immunizations required for a health care professional in the state of Oregon; wear scrubs to labs and clinical, bilingual students welcomed,   textbook is required. Online lecture, lab and clinical practice in application of dental sealants.  This course meets the requirements for certification from the Oregon Board of Dentistry.  The course consists of 3 hours of didactic and 6 hours of laboratory and clinical placement on two patients.  Students will have instruction in dental anatomy, dental materials, concepts of bonding, sealant legal requirements, goals of sealant placement, indications and contraindications, patient selection criteria and dental sealants in a prevention program.  Sealant materials, armamentarium and placement are experienced in lab and clinical care.  Moisture control, tooth preparation, etching and sealant material manipulation are demonstrated and practiced.  Evaluation criteria, chemical and light cure products, and sealant adjustment techniques are implemented during patient clinical care. Requirements: Student must provide proof EFDA certification or RDH license; Immunization record for proof of Health Care Provider vaccination/immunity; Current CPR card; schedule two patients with a minimum of 1 tooth per quadrant for the pit and fissure sealant clinical.  Student must complete online test prior to laboratory and clinical care.  Questions on verification of health records, online testing and other questions contact Sharon Hagan at hagans@lanecc.edu
