After a classroom session to establish a botanical foundation this series of field trips will help participants improve their identification skills and knowledge of our local flora. Topics include plant anatomy, family characteristics, and using a botanical key to aid in identification. The focus will be on flowering plants. This class will meet every other week (4/17, 5/1, 5/15, 5/29), with the first class meeting at the classroom listed; subsequent classes will meet on site in the field at various locations; carpooling will be facilitated at first class meeting. Required: a 10x hand-lens and text, Handbook of Northwestern Plants Revised Edition. 978-0870714900, Gilkey & Dennis. 2001.

Learn all about those rhodies in your yard! You will learn the history, types and care of these iconic coastal plants in this 1-day class led by a retired landscaper and Master Gardener. Spend 2 hours in the classroom followed by a 2-hour visit to Gallagher Park to look at the varieties, smell the flowers and practice pruning. Bring gloves and loppers for pruning.
