This course will provide current Hygienists and Expanded Function Dental Assistants the knowledge and skills to place and contour amalgam and composite restorative fillings. Following successful completion of the course plus the clinical board exam, candidates will qualify for the Restorative Function credential in the state of Oregon.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate understanding of the criteria for placement of a successful restorative filling; and
- Manipulate and place restorative materials in both anterior and posterior teeth considering esthetics, contours and strength.

- All supplies and instruments provided for use during course, including typodont. We will accept the first 8 students with complete application and payment.
- Students will provide their own clinical patients, but the cost of the patients' fillings are included in the course tuition fee.
Board Exam: Board expenses are not included in the $5200.00 course fee.
- Board exams will be held in Seattle, WA. Registration for the board is due by July 26. Cost of the board exam is $445.00 plus a site fee which is determined by the site (average site fee is approximately $100.00).

June 10: Orientation (Mandatory)
Course Start: June 12 - June 21 (Didactic - Online lecture must be completed by June 21)

- Time: Work independently; must be completed by June 21st (Friday) to start preclinical participation on June 22nd .
Preclinical (learning on typodonts):
June 22-23, June 29-30, (Off: July 6-7), July 13-14, July 20-21, July 27-28
(Saturday and Sunday) - July 28 is mock boards

- Time: 8:00am-3:00pm (with lunch break)
- Venue: Lane Community College (Building 8, Room 101)
- Total Hours: 60 hours (Includes 12 hours didactic in person lectures)
- 34 hrs. mandatory + 26 hrs. optional = 60 total
- The preclinical has a total of 60 hours with a required minimum of 34 hours (more information on the required hours for the preclinical will be provided during orientation)
Clinicals (working on patients):
Aug 3-4 and Aug 10-11 (Saturday and Sunday)

- Time: 8:00am-5:00pm (with lunch break)
- Venue: Lane Dental Clinic (2460 Willamette St.)
- Total Hours: 24 hours
- Students will participate as operators for 3 days and assist other students on the 4th day. Students will place composite and amalgam fillings to restore a minimum of 15 surfaces (details to be provided at orientation)
