Dental Restorative Functions

NOTE: Limited to 8 students only. 

Course Description:
This course will provide current Hygienists and Expanded Function Dental Assistants the knowledge and skills to place and contour amalgam and composite restorative fillings. Following successful completion of the course plus the clinical board exam, candidates will qualify for the Restorative Function credential in the state of Oregon.   
 

Objectives:

• Demonstrate understanding of the criteria for placement of a successful restorative filling; and

• Manipulate and place restorative materials in both anterior and posterior teeth considering esthetics, contours and strength.

Important Information: 

• Registration is until December 13, 2026, 11:59pm
• All supplies and instruments provided for use during course, including typodont.
• We will accept the first 8 students with complete application and payment.
• Submit the following on or before December 13: Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) and current CPR, OR Dental Hygiene License and current CPR. - send documents in either PDF or JPG format to larax@lanecc.edu.
• Students will provide their own clinical patients, but the cost of the patients' fillings are included in the course fee.
• Board Exam: Board expenses are not included in the $5200.00 course fee. Board exams will be held in Salem, OR.  Registration for the board is due by February 3, 2027. The cost of the board exam is $475.00 plus a site fee which is determined by the site (average site fee is approximately $100.00).

Schedule: Total Hours - 102 hours

Jan. 4: Orientation (Required)

• via Zoom - 6:00pm-7:00pm

Jan. 4 - Jan. 15: Didactic / Online lecture (Asynchronous)

• Instructor: LaKrisha Bloom

• Total Hours: 18 hours

• Time: Work independently; must be completed by January 15 (Friday) to start preclinical participation on January 16

Preclinical (learning on typodonts):

Jan. 16-17, Jan. 23-24, Jan. 31-31, Feb. 6-7, Feb. 13-14

(Saturday and Sunday)

• Instructor: LaKrisha Bloom / Audrey Ferguson

• Time: 8:00am-3:00pm (with lunch break)

• Venue: Lane Community College, 4000 E 30th Ave., Eugene OR 97426 - Building 32, Room 331

• Total Hours: 60 hours

  • The preclinical has a total of 60 hours with a required minimum of 34 hours (more information on the required hours for the preclinical will be provided during orientation)

Clinicals (working on patients):

Feb. 20-21 and Feb. 27 (Saturday and Sunday)

• Instructor: LaKrisha Bloom / Audrey Ferguson / Dr. Elizabeth Sasse

• Time: 8:00am-5:00pm (with lunch break)

• Venue: Lane Community College, 4000 E 30th Ave., Eugene OR 97426 - Building 32, Room 361

• Total Hours: 24 hours

  • Students will participate as operators for 3 days and will place composite and amalgam fillings to restore (details to be provided at orientation)

If the class does not meet the required minimum number of students, we will need to cancel the class. Please register as soon as possible. Registration is until December 13, 11:59pm. Thank you
