The Nursing Assistant program provides the student with the skills to perform basic level nursing care. Content includes introduction to health care facilities, role of the nursing assistant, communication, medical terminology, basic body structure and function, patient needs, basic growth and development, preventing infection, body mechanics, and much more. This program is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Upon successful completion of this non-credit program, students may sit for the Oregon State Board of Nursing certification exam for nursing assistants at an additional fee.
The Nursing Assistant program is one term only. It is split into two components - classroom/lab and clinical.
COSTS:
Class: $1,250.00 (Includes – Registration, Textbook, workbook, and cost of CPR certification).
Books included in the registration fee: Nursing Assisting: A Foundation in Caregiving, Diana L. Dugan, RN; Sixth Edition and companion Workbook
Other costs:
- Uniform: Royal Blue scrubs (2 sets recommended) - $30.00 - 40.00
- Gait Belt: (Varies based on student choice) - $8.00 - 20.00
- Watch with a second hand: (Cost varies based on student choice)
- Shoes: (Cost varies based on student choice)
- Proof of Insurance: (If a student does not have insurance, it can be purchased on a month to month basis for clinicals to meet State requirement).
Registration with American Databank ($129.00) - This is a lifetime subscription to an immunization and documentation tracking system. Before you create your account, please be aware that you must have a valid credit card. You will be ordering your account, Background Check (Background Check MUST be initiated prior to the first day of class), and Drug/Alcohol screen all at one time.
Before the start of the of the course, students are highly encouraged to initiate their vaccinations and upload a copy of your Hepatitis B vaccination, MMR vaccination, varicella vaccination, adult TDAP, COVID-19 vaccine, PPD testing, OSHA bloodborne Pathogen training, OSHA safety training, and HIPAA training. Background Check must be initiated prior to the first day of class.
On COVID-19 Vaccination:
The Nursing Assistant program currently does not require COVID-19 vaccination but is recommended. If you have had the COVID Vaccinations, please upload the CDC card or other documentation to COMPLIO. Although the vaccines and booster are not currently required, these may be subject to change based on clinical site requirement. Clinical facilities may or may/may not require COVID-19 vaccination at any given point. Since the clinical rotation part of the course is required for the completion of the Nursing Assistant program, students would need to comply with their requirements.
In COMPLIO, COVID vaccines are still required for other Health Professions programs. You will need to request an override from the program/clinical instructor if you choose to not be currently vaccinated.

Orientation:
Students are required to attend the orientation on
June 16, 2025 / Monday / 1:00pm-3:00pm / Room 327 - Lane Community College Downtown Campus (Mary Spilde Downtown Center, 101 W. 10th Ave., Eugene, OR 97401)
