Memory Loss 101: This education program covers differences between typical aging and dementia, what Alzheimer’s disease is and how it affects the brain, and the most common other types of dementia. You will learn about risk factors for the disease, the medications currently available to treat Alzheimer’s and other dementias, how to get a diagnosis, and what its progression looks like.
Interacting With Your Loved One With Memory Loss: What are communication changes that take place during the course of this disease and how can you respond in a way that will have a positive outcome? What strategies can be used to address the sometimes-challenging behaviors that can be symptoms of dementia?
Caring for the Caregiver: This program deals with how to recognize and avoid the pitfalls of care partner stress. The second part of this program is a guide to care partner support throughout the disease, with specific, practical, and local resources to turn to. Ways to facilitate smooth transitions and assess living situations will be discussed, with the emphasis on keeping the care partner healthy through it all.
