ClassGraphic Winston Churchill is considered by many to be the greatest leader of the 20th century.  He was a multi-faceted man – politician, statesman, author, painter, soldier and military innovator – who some consider proof that a single individual can change the course of history.  In this 7-week course, we will examine the life of Churchill from his early childhood as a “troublesome boy” to the man who led England through the perilous days of early WWII — a time that later became known as “their finest hour” — and beyond.  We will examine the actual events of the time and discuss the actions and qualities that led to his being considered both a great leader and a great man.  Each session will include 1 or 2  short video presentations by an internationally known Churchill scholar that, in addition to focusing on Churchill’s activities and accomplishments, provide considerable insight into the historical periods in which he lived.  Each class will include interactive discussion periods where we will consider the key points and questions that are raised by the content of these presentations, examine other perspectives on Churchill’s life (he did have his critics), and offer our own perspectives.
